PRINCIPAL UPDATE: 24 April, 2026

Tena koutou katoa e te whānau,

​There is always a wonderful sense of energy in the air when we return to school after the holidays. It has been fantastic to see our students dive straight back into college life, making the most of the diverse opportunities available to them. As you browse through the rest of this newsletter, you’ll see plenty of evidence of our students’ vibrant engagement in both their academic and extracurricular pursuits.

​​Every Day Counts: Attendance Goals

We are continuing to push forward with our attendance initiatives. Our primary goal is to bring our overall attendance figures in line with the Government’s national targets.

Consistency is key. When students are in class, they have the best possible chance to:

• Strengthen academic performance through direct teacher support.
• Develop social skills and build lasting peer relationships.
• Build momentum in their learning, ensuring no gaps are left behind.

We appreciate your ongoing support in ensuring your children are at school every day. Every day at school is another chance to learn.

Cultivating a Love for Reading

We have noticed that many of our students would significantly benefit from increasing their reading time at home. Literacy is the foundation of all learning; strong reading skills are imperative for students to fully engage with the entire curriculum, from the sciences to the arts.

To support your child’s development, we recommend the following:

• The Power Hour: Encourage your children to swap their digital devices for a book for at least one hour each day.
• Read Widely: Whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, or biographies, all reading helps build vocabulary and critical thinking.
• Home Support: Engaging in conversations about what they are reading is a great way to reinforce their comprehension.

The more reading our students do, the better equipped they will be for the challenges ahead. Let’s work together to make reading a daily habit!
