Curriculum Review

Curriculum Review Hui - 8th September

Kia ora koutou katoa

I want to thank our community for coming out in force on a bitterly cold and wet evening to attend our curriculum review meeting last night. What a great turn out from friends and whanau. The atmosphere was very positive as we all worked together to better understand the curriculum vision, and to help identify a Graduate Profile for our students when they leave Whangaroa College at the end of YR13. Furthermore, we were heartened to see the great support as we introduced the concept of providing Project Based Learning opportunities for our students. This is an exciting time for our school and community and I invite you all along for the journey.

As mentioned last night, the school will create a Curriculum Review tab under the Curriculum tab on our school website. Matakohe school worked together as a community to redesign their school curriculum. Through listening to the values and aspirations of everyone, they have developed their own graduate profile with a set of competencies for all students to work towards.

This is the structure and model for a middle school which began in Manurewa, New Zealand, in 2014. The documentary was created after the first 18 months of operation. The school was quickly popular as children and their families look for a superb education.

Well-designed project-based learning (PBL) has been shown to result in deeper learning and more engaged, self-directed learners.
